MONDAY: The last full day of our vacation – this was also Meatless Monday for me…more on that in a separate post, but if you’re curious – check out more info here.
Breakfast: I’ve been eyeing this all week and decided I couldn’t leave Texas without trying it for myself….a Texan-sized waffle – I actually went all the way back up to the room just so I could get my camera and show this to you.
As the saying goes – everything is bigger in Texas. This was pretty darn good, I poured a little honey over it. Not overly sweet, but too thick for my preference, I like the thinner, crisper waffles.
The plan for Monday was to be low-key…we didn’t set any really timelines for the day, but we did plan on going to Breckenridge Park, which is supposed to be the “Central Park” of San Antonio. The hubby and I were very interested in seeing the much talked about Japanese Tea Garden while the other half visited an onsite museum.
However, this play didn’t really come to fruition and we ended up just hanging out a lot and then meeting up for a last Mexican meal before each family went their separate ways.
The hubby and I lounged around in our hotel room watching movies and free cable!! We watched Away We Go – overall good movie with a good message. Around early afternoon we managed to get our butts in gear and decided to keep it indoors by checking out the local mall that was a few blocks from our hotel.
Snack: Luna Bar
While walking around the mall, I spotted these Britto suitcases that I absolutely want!! They are so fabulous!!
After walking around the mall a bit, we grabbed a bite to eat at Chick-fil-a.
Lunch: Since I’m participating in Meatless Mondays, I went with a side salad and a side of fruit. I also snagged a few french fries from the hubby.
Then we did a little more walking around the mall and on our way home we stopped at the closest frozen yogurt shop to get our fro-yo fix. So good! I had the usual original flavor with blueberries and a few cookie dough bites, but they also had a flavor I’ve never tried before – yellow cake batter! And that’s exactly what it tasted like. The hubby liked it too! The customer service was a little lacking, the front counter person talked on the phone the entire time we were there and while she rang us up. Crappy!
After getting our yogurt, we headed back to the hotel to hang out and then meet up with everyone later on for our last dinner together at Mi Terra. We only ate 1/2 our yogurt and saved the rest for later.
When it was time to meet everyone, we headed downtown to “Produce Row” – I snapped a few pics before we went into the restaurant for dinner
Dinner: We had to have Mexican for our last meal in San Antonio and chose this place based on a recommendation.
They brought us chips and salsa and the hubby and I ordered a Dos Equis to start out our meal.
For my entrée - it was kind of hard to find a meatless meal – thankfully they serve breakfast all day long, so I went with the Chilaquiles Famosos – Crisp corn tortilla strips scrambled with eggs, topped with ranchero sauce and aged melted cheddar cheese. Served with refried bens. You could also choose a type of meat to go along with this, but I didn’t since it was Meatless Monday.
Dessert: we finally found a place that served Sopapillas for dessert, which you find everywhere in New Mexico, but hardly anywhere else. I was more than ecstatic to see this on the menu. This is served with cinnamon and then you pour honey over it and enjoy!
While having dinner, we also enjoyed a nice serenade
After dinner, we walked around “produce row”, looked in a few shops and then called it a night. We said our goodbyes and then headed back to our respective hotels.
The hubby and I chilled in the hotel room and I was actually able to finish my book – Sarah’s Key - which you should definitely read – I didn’t want it to end.
This trip to San Antonio was great…lots of great company, lots of great food and lots of great adventures! I hope you enjoyed seeing a little of San Antonio.
